went trough a pond

as the subject states, I made the great decision of taking my rodeo through a pond (normally I stick to mud and trails). Well, now it makes this great sound like mud is stuck in the pullys, no big deal except this was 200mi ago and the noise is still there. I have tryed spraying all of the pullys down with WD-40, but no luck. Any ideas?

Oh yeah, it is a 97 3.2L, and the water came up to just below the intake.

Thanks

Re: went trough a pond

brave brave man...

are you sure the sound is coming from the pully's?

the best i can tell you would be to pull them and inspect them, maybe a rock or some grime is stuck deep in there...dunno

Thanks
Did you get any pictures of the fishing trip? Catfish looking in the windows? I suppose most of us are impressed that a Rodeo can handle it up to the intake and still get around 200 miles + afterward.

Maybe there is some debris lodged under the timing belt cover, and the tensioner is straining.

Well, did you get any video clips - we all want to see this adventure!

sorry, but no pics this time.
I did find some grass stuck in the alt. Not much else. I'll try to buy some greese to get the pullys lubed back up soon (they looked kinda dry).

Re: went trough a pond

By the way, how deep do you all trust to go in your rodeo?

Re: went trough a pond

I've been in up to the half-way mark on the wheel wells - in sand with a 4x2, nonetheless.

I've never gone in over what's needed to drop the boat in, which has a very deep V by the way. I usually back in to just barely above the tailpipe, at one time we were at a lake that the water was pretty low on and the dock didn't go down far enough - almost got in more then I'd like to have as the Rodeo started sinking in the thick goop .

Up at Glendo, Wyoming a long time ago, we sank our 3/4ton chevy truck in about 6" of mud mixed with 2-3' of water - that was fun

You got the gutts that's for sure!

Re: went trough a pond

Wanted to add, you might want to change all your fluids, i.e. oil, transmission fluid, transfer case fluid, rear differential, and possibly re-pack your front wheel bearings.

Very interesting question. There was a thread on the wire about that awhile ago. For me, I am not sure. I would probably take it until just past the hubs or maybe to the top of the wheels, but i wish I had the guts to go higher. One day, when the Rodeo isn't my only ride, it will be abused(in a good way).

All the belt driven stuff has sealed, unserviceable bearings?!? Trying to grease anything there will just fling grease everywhere & wipe out the belts. The bad thing about dunking a 3.2/3.5 is it tends to kill the alternator. Alternators dont fare well to being submerged on the fly & they are mounted way down low on the 3.2/3.5's.

Re: went trough a pond

I had the same problem after I went through deep sandy/muddy water. It ended up being the carrier bearing getting small fine debris in it and causing it to go out.

Re: went trough a pond

The 4X2 Rodeo never goes offroad. I can't afford any troubles with it. I'm not an offraod enthusiast, and I almost needed a pull out of a drainage area in a parking lot with my Jeep. I had three kids with me and kept running the explanation I was going to give the officer through my head. 4 lo and lots of rocking with all the passengers out finally got one front wheel to dry pavement and she pulled out. Lesson learned!
