* Check Engine Light * EGR - How Does Isuzu Mech. Fix?

Ok... One question I have is with the numerous EGR related problems, what procedure do the Isuzu mechanics follow to fix this issue? I'm sure it's the #1 item on their punchlist, so could any Isuzu mechanics enlighten us on this issue? It's much appreciated!

My experience:
I have a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo 2WD @ 130k mi. For over a year and 1/2 I've experienced the check engine light with the famous EGR code error. This Christmas I purchased a new EGR Valve for 150.00 at Autozone. Disconnected the battery, removed the old valve, and cleaned out the two holes for any carbon build up. I did notice the small hole was VERY tight, with little room to move. I was very cautious on this cleaning as I do not want any carbon chunks to break up and fall in. After installing the new valve and driving the car 20 minutes later, the check engine line appeared. I went back to autozone, and they suggested it was the O2 sensors. Did not purchase them and decided to look online. After reading this forum and googling many articles, I found this issue is a historical problem so again my question is how does the Isuzu dealership mechanics fix this for $495.00?

Autozone has a filter screen for $6.00 which can be placed between the two holes and valve. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks

You need to clean a little more then the EGR. you also need to clean the egr tube too.

typically it take a half of a can of carb cleaner (1-3 bucks).

your dealer charges 495? I would ask them for a break down of what they will do for the money.

My dealer charges 100 bucks for it (I can do it myself in under 30 minutes).

Remove the egr valve.Take the breather hose off.Open the butterfly and look inside, towards the bottom. You will see a tube looking think pointing towards the bottom of the intake. It will be clogged up.I just undo a coat hanger and poke it inside the tube and spray carb cleaner in the one of the wholes where you removed the egr valve. When you see carb cleaner coming out, then it will be unclogged.Sometimes you have to remove the upper plenum, but usually not.I think I might have had to remove one.I hope this helps.Carl
