Re: f1 vs road cars

I'd like to see how a Koenigsegg CCR(yes I had to google to get the spelling right haha) would fair againt it.
http://www.koenigsegg.com/thecars/index.asp?submenu=4
850HP.. more power but obviously way heavier but it does have a higher top speed since it obviously has way less downforce therefore less drag.

Re: f1 vs road cars

F1 car vs minivan and luxury sedan. That was just stupid.

If they wanted to have a real race they should had the F1 car race a http://www.lingenfelter.com/ twin turbo Corvette and a 100% stock GSX-R1000.

Re: f1 vs road cars

I honestly don't think anything can beat an F1 car around a track like that one. No Koenigsegg, no Saleen, no Enzo (or FXX), no Veyron, nothing. The record time at Fiorano for Ferrari's third place F2005 was 55.9 seconds, for comparison, the 360 Modena takes 1:30, the F430 takes 1:27, the Enzo takes 1:25, and the FXX takes 1:18. That is a huge difference.

I think it could be done if they made the F1 car run street tires.

Re: f1 vs road cars

The last printed 1/4 mile time for a F1 car was 9.1 sec.@ ??? mph and that was a Jaguar without traction control 2 or 3 years ago.Top teams were making over 900 hp last year and cars only weigh 1320 with driver. With trac. control they should be able to run high 7 sec. 1/4. Thats over 3 positive g's. Add in the 3.5+ g cornering and -5 g braking (yes on exotic rubber) and no other car could beat one on a road track. And in addition the BAR team went 266+ mph at the Mojave Airport this year in low down force race trim prepping for Bonneville next year. I could see some street leagal cars beating it in a straight line though.

Modern F1 cars do run street legal tyres, they have more than enough tread to be road lega.

Watching the video it looks like the F1 car is running slicks. Still my main point is to make the race fare the F1 car and the street car should be running the same tires.

Re: f1 vs road cars

even if they were wearing the same tires the f1 car would beat the living crap aout of those 2 cars. the f1 has less than a quarter of the weight, more than wice the power, and hundreds of times the aerodynamic downforce. there's no competition.

I know that's why I said:

Re: f1 vs road cars

Minivan? Have ever seen a smart car?

And it wasn't stupid, it was an attempt to give people a comparison of just how fast F1 cars are in comparison to road cars.

The rules for tires in F1 have changed alot. The tires on F1 cars in 2005 were designed so they had to survive an entire race, no pit stops. In 2006, you can change wheels during races again.

I would again like to assert, nothing can beat an F1 car. The better companies (Ferrari, Renault, Honda, Mercedes/McLaren, BMW) throw $400,000,000 budgets at racing and developing them every year.

Re: f1 vs road cars

It was a very cool video. Take F1 car add harder tires ment for the street (not just street legal), R-Compound is acceptible, take your fastest street cars and add really stickey rubber and race head to head and i think it could posisble be a good, fair race. the F1 would still win but it would swallow a 70sec gap. Remember that F1 drivers are used to having gobs of traction, the Lateral G's you can pull with that much downforce on that much stickey rubber is amazing, i wouldnt be surprised if the F1 actually spun out.

Either way F1 cars are and amazing feat, there is an old video of a mid 90's F1 car racing an Enzo...the Enzo was still no match. Even then they where making 750hp and weighed just a tad more than they do now.

If they made F1 cars with traction controll and better visibility fro mteh cock pit...id drive one

Oh, One car that may stand a chance is an Ariel Atom on R-Compound through the twisties. But it cant even brake 200mph....lead alone 266.
