Starter Issues

Recently my 02 GT has been acting up when starting. When i go to start it up, there is times it won't want to turn over (no big surprise) so when i let off the key to try it again, the starter will actually grind, as if i am over starting the car, but i already have let go the key. At times the car will actually start on its own after the grind.... it stumbles and starts. On a regular day where the car starts fine, the starter will grind after i let go the key (sometimes). What should i be looking into here? Will i be needing a new starter soon?

Re: Starter Issues

It sounds like the starter is going bad in that the bendix is not releasing due to the solenoid sticking. It is also possible that the there is a wiring issue but you need to check the starter first. You may want to change the entire starter but since you will need a new solenoid you may want to change it first on the current starter to see what happens.
