Turn signal problems

I have a 1992 Pontiac Grand Am. The turn signal will not flash at all for the right hand side. It will flash on the left, but slowly. When I turn on the headlights the signal will not flash at all and the front bulb on the drivers side will not light up. This same bulb will flash when the headlights are off. I have replaced the flasher with the same results. Please help

Re: Turn signal problems

First and foremost, I'd say check all of your bulbs. Once you know that they're all good, I think you'll probably find that the multifunction switch has gone bad.

you are aware there is probably 2 flashers right? On my 95 there was one for controlling the 4-ways & one for the turn signal, double check you got the right one. Find the flasher you replaced and turn on the 4-ways, if its clicking then turn on the turn signals and see if its still clicking, if its not then find other one, im guessing you accidently got the wrong flasher.

Next i'd start changing the bulbs, weird things happen if you get corrosion in any of them, swap them side to side if you don't have new ones, see if the problem follows the bulbs.

If that isn't your problem i'd suspect the switch on the column next.

Hi, I have a 2001 grand am gt and i have a similar problem that the one is explained here, but i didn't do something to fix the problem because it happen few times ago. And if i used the intermittent lights the problem was fixed (they flash). But, now the lights work very well when i use the turn signals. Now, my problem is when i don't use them. Because i hear the cliking of the signals and it starts to be more and more faster and louder. Do you think that it could be the relay or the fusible?

Re: Turn signal problems

The mulitfunction switches are a known problem for all years of Grand Am, but as the previous guys said, try the bulbs first, cheaper and easier than changing a multifunction switch.
