2001 escort shifting prob

Parked car in gas station got back in and could not get it back out of park. This particular model you have to press the brake to get it out of park. Pressed the brake and could not shift out of park. Have currently 64k miles and have never had a problem before this. Is there a quick fix or will this be a dealer problem. The car is still under warranty.
Thanks for any help you can give me...

Check the brake light fuse that also works the shift lock. If it is not blown you probably have a bad shift lock switch which is located under the plastic cover in the shifter. You can bypass it by removing the little plastic plug by the shift lever and sticking a screwdriver in it to get it
out of park.
