anyone know how to set up 5.1 systems to a computer?

I hooked it up and it's all good and stuff, but a week later the left speaker is really quiet compared to the center speaker.

On top of that I can never get the in-computer software to individually test each speaker, it only tests the left and right, and not the center, sub and rear speakers. WTF?

I have told this stupid comp it's 5.1 in two softwares, it still wont do it.

My system is a Altec Lansing XA3051

Re: anyone know how to set up 5.1 systems to a computer?

go to control panel, open sound and audio devices

at the bottom in speaker setting go to "advanced"

in the drop box, select 5.1

click ok

open your volume controls, go to options, properties

you should see a check box for front and rear speakers, check them and close out the window.

after this you should have full control of the front speakers.

btw this xp, i dont know that 2000 has this.

Re: anyone know how to set up 5.1 systems to a computer?

Ok I tried that, I found the controls, but thats for my other soundcard which is not in use, my primary soundcard does not have those settings.

My left speaker is too low, I have to put it up to my ear to be able to hear anything, this is crap because the right speaker is fine, the rears are fine, and so is the center.

Re: anyone know how to set up 5.1 systems to a computer?

what kind of sound card are you using? go ahead and reload the drivers for that and go to device manager and remove the original soundcard from the computer.

also when you go into the audip properties to add the different things to the audio control, you can select the sound card from the drop down menu at the top. try that first

i have an audigy 2 zs, im sure that if you remove the onboard sound card it will fix it. after youve done that, go into the bios and if possible disable it from there. then once your back in windows, go ahead and reload the driver for the sound blaster card.

ok sweet I'll try that, but I don't know where it is inside the computer, can I just disable it from the BIOS and will that do it?

to remove the onboard sound card, since it is built in to the motherboard. you will need to go to device manager and uninstall it from there. there is no way to physically remove it.

Re: anyone know how to set up 5.1 systems to a computer?

okie i did all that, in my "creative Speaker Calibration", when i click "basic" it's suppose to sound for each speaker and when I hear it I click on the speaker I hear it for, well I don't hear the center, or rear spears, when I do the "Channel test" I sounds (for 5.1) "Front left...Front right....." although it selects the right speakers it doesn't sound from either of them

...wtflol?

I have the Logitech 5.1 and mine did the same thing. I switched it to the 7.1 surround and it now works fine.
