cold air intake ?'s
i have a question about cold air intake. i am looking to buy one how are they to use in the winter. i live up in canada and it gets cold here where i live would it be hard on the truck with one of these cold air intakes. seeing that there would be alot of cold air coming in. would it affect the heat of my motor and howmuch heat my heater puts out?

Re: cold air intake ?'s
I doubt that it would be hard on the truck at all. While they are "cold air" intakes, you are only talking maybe 5º difference between them and a stock intake. I think the power they produce has to do more with their straighter, free flowing designs over stock. Personally, I like my K&N, but I think everyone here who has one likes what they have.

Re: cold air intake ?'s
technically the ones your talking about are "warm air" intakes. A true cold air intake gets its air from womewhere outside of the engine bay such as a wheelweel of down by the fog light area. Im also in the market for one.

Yup, I agree, looking at those things the filter assembly sits out in the open in the engine bay so I don't know how it's getting its cool air when it is sitting out in the open in that hot engine bay. The factory box is isolated and gets more cool air as its bringing it in from outside the engine bay.
If you want a true cool air sysem check out Volant. http://www.volantperformance.com/pro...ield=Chevrolet |

Re: cold air intake ?'s
i think if you buy the air intake, buy one with the box around it, like that volant one, or like a k&n with that partial box and then buy a functional cowl hood(expensive i kno) with the ram air and i figure then that the air will be cooler, now bout the air being to cold to answer your question i really dont think it will hurt your engine either, i mean its hot when the fuel ignites and all your doing is really just puttin more air in, because the molecules are alot closer

I have the volant intake on my truck, There hasnt been anything i havent liked about it. It was easy to put in and pulls air from the fender and also has the option for a ram air tube that sits behing the tow hook i believe. the enclosed box would also keep more dirt out in my opinion.

Re: cold air intake ?'s
I have the K&N. We just had some record rainfall here in the Sacramento area...no problems!!! As for the "cold" part. It might get some engine heat when at a stop, but once I start moving I get plenty of air from outside the engine compartment. I've also had no problems in temps just below freezing. It ROCKS!!!
