Unhappy ABS light and Service trac control

Hello and thanks for looking. I have a 2000 Imp LS with abs and traction control. The problem occurs after starting the car and driving it, the abs light and service traction control message comes on simultaneously. It happens randomly wether driving or stopped or turning etc. But it does always happen within the first 10 miles. Then after I shut it off and restart it the light and message are off and the cycle starts over. I took it to a service shop and they replaced the Body Control Module (with a used one) and found a bad connection on the right rear wheel speed sensor. The problem is still there! I have checked the brake fluid, like I saw here could be the problem and that was fine. The car drives smooth (no vibrations or pulls or surges in the brakes) and everything else seems fine. Any help or ideas would be great.

Re: ABS light and Service trac control

This needs to be scanned with a full function abs scanner for codes and comparative wheel speed inputs.

if it's the speed sensor on either of the sides, i'm pretty sure the whole wheel hub needs to be replaced. roughly $300. not 100% sure about that, i'd verify it with your mechanic.

Re: ABS light and Service trac control

We have a 2000 and have made many problems with this. Had the right rear hub assembly replaced twice, and the left front replaced once. So far it's been ok, but I don't know for how long. All 3 times the garage told me we had a bad wheel bearing. We drove it for 6 months with the lights on before getting the right rear done the second time. That's a long time to drive on a "bad bearing". But the car never acted like anything was wrong. Just the lights were on. When the front 1 went bad, you could tell something was wrong with that wheel. Oh well, just as long as it works for a few more years, then I can get rid of it.

Talking Re: ABS light and Service trac control

Update!!!!!!!!!! It turns out it was the right rear wheel speed sensor/bearing. My mechanic said thats what it probably was if the light continued to come on. So I spent $150 at Bumper to Bumper and replaced it myself. It was rather easy. All you have to do is take off the wheel, unplug the speed sensor from behind the bearing, remove the disc brake caliper with a 13mm, then take off the brake disc, then with a 10mm and a 3" extension go in through the hub access holes and remove the four bolts. Then to get the bearing assembly loose, I had to put my wheel back on the studs with a couple of nuts and give it a kick to free it. Then finaly take the parking brake cable torx bolts out of the back of the disc shield, and its out. Reverse for assembly. Good luck billyo69 and Staron4, I hope this helps you guys out.

Re: ABS light and Service trac control

Thanks for the update. When it becomes a real problem i will do what you did.I ignore most dash lites other than oil and temp gauge until i have no choice but do something about them.
