Fuel pump advice

I'm going to be upgrading my pump soon and I thought about being cheap and just buying a 190 but I thought I might as well just go ahead and get a 255 and a megan racing afpr. My question is should I get the normal 255 or a high pressure version?

Re: Fuel pump advice

What are you planning on running for a turbo and injectors?

Re: Fuel pump advice

I havn't heard anything about the Megan AFPR. Does it have the ability to raise & lower fuel pressure?

just because it looks the same, dosen't mean it is. there is NO replacement for the aeromotive unit. i think alot of Wisemen can back me up on this one.
if your going do buy a 255 or a 255hp do it right and get the aeromotive fuel pressure regulator. it will also make tuning on DSMlink a hell of alot easier with a solid fuel map. if you get the AFPR get the high pressure 255, no reason not to....

Re: Fuel pump advice

Well megan racing is a trusted name and I've only heard good things about their products, but I know what you mean aeromotive is the best but if the megan racing unit is as good as the rest of their products then at this point since im poor its the route that I'm going to go down. before I do anything however I'm going to find out as much as I can about it and make a decision based on fact and not just looks

Re: Fuel pump advice

yes, please do research, hate to see a nice car burn to the ground because of a flaw in the fuel system....

Re: Fuel pump advice

Quickly searching on Tunners, a few people have it, and it works just fine. Slowboy Racing think it is a good AFPR, but don't recomend it over the Aeromotive unit untill they can make a 1g & 2g install kit.

Megan racing is an up a coming company out of So Cal, it seems like they're allways coming out with somthing new every month. Their chrafrsman ship is quite good! But I would prefure to wait and see what this FPR will hold up to when it becomes more popular. Fuel is to important to be a ginnypig subject on their first generation regulators. Megan racing has a tendency to mass produce probamatic parts. (2g gsx downpipes)

Re: Fuel pump advice

If the choice is between a 255LP and a 255HP, always go with the HP. There really is no choice if you ask me. There is no advantag to the LP version. The pressure at idle is the same depsite popular internet rumor, since the only real difference is a higher pressure relief valve. And you'll have the AFPR either way!

Re: Fuel pump advice

Thanks for all of the great info. Now that I know which pump I'm going with, the question lies in which regulator, the tried and true aeromotive unit or the less expensive possibly flawed megan racing one. on paper they both seem really good but since the megan racing one hasnt really been used a whole lot its kind of iffy

Re: Fuel pump advice

aeromotive FPR, it's proven. Or if you don't have the cash for a good FPR, you can do what I'm doing. I bought the 190 and I'm running that since it pumps out enough fuel for most 50 trims and definitely the evoIII. Once I get something massively bigger I'll buy a 255 and a FPR, the pump itself is only 90 bucks, so not that huge of a deal.

Re: Fuel pump advice

Thats a good point and probably what I will end up doing since cash is short and I want to have lot of other things done by summer. I just figured if I could get away with a 255 and regulator for $170 I'd do it now

Re: Fuel pump advice

The EVO8 pump is a touch bigger than the walbro 190, and it was NOT sufficient to run the EVO8 turbo, fyi. On the stock wiring, I was out of fuel around 35 lbs/min, which is exactly what my fuel spreadsheet predicted. With the pump rewired its good to around 42-44 lbs/min, which is exactly what you will get out of an EVO turbo, maxed out of course. For a 50 trim that is capable of 50 lbs/min, the 190 is too small unless you only plan to max it out on race, but even runner leaner on race gas may not buy enough headroom. My opinion is that you don't want to be riding the limit on your fuel system setup. One mishap with boost and damage can occur. I lost my last motor on the 11.3@126 pass because I was on the 255 LP. The HP would have been enough, and I could have run much faster before the end of the season. In fact it was because of that last failure that I learned 75% of everything I know about fuel systems...
