Need Help, poor college student with a broken truck

Okay I just bought a 95 jimmy 4 door slt and the 4 wheel drive didnt work. I did my research and found it was a vacuum line connecting to the vacuum actuator switch. So now my 4 wheel drive works and all is good with the world untill I parked it that night. I got up the next morning to go to work and I could not back out of my drive way. My reverse was not working. About five minutes of letting the car run my reverse started to work but very little. I could only move backwards at most 5 miles an hour and I had to rev the truck to around 2500 to do that. Is there and connection between fixing my 4 wheel drive and losing my reverse? Or did I just happen to lose my tranny the night I fixed my 4 wheel drive? Thanks for the help, and your time.

Josh

Reverse in the trans is done, unless you had the parking brake on. Forward is ok?

All drive gears are fine, 1st through over drive. It is only reverse that will not work. I was looking through the forum and found this http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=461182
could my problem possiable be the REACTION SUN SHELL even though my 2 and fourth gear work fine?

What does the condition of the fluid look like? Is it burnt? How is the level of the fluid in the tranny? You have to check it with the engine idling in park. Look at the basics first and take it from there.

The fluid is black but the level is good. I should mention I bought the truck with 160,000 miles on it. It runs really well, and it looked to have been well matained, but I doubt the tranny was ever matainanced.

Well if its black, thats not a good thing in your favor. I don't think its the reaction shell, because you havn't lost 2, plus does it make any clanking/loud humming noise when you put it in reverse? You should try dropping the pan and taking a look inside. If the pan has a lot of material sitting at the bottom of it, something is cooked and needs replacing. If you see normal amount of material you could try changing the filter and fluid in the pan, and adding a good supplement like a Lube Gaurd, or even a Ams-Oil tranny supplement. They may help. Good Luck!
