Ariel Atom, the $50,000 McLaren killer. 300 hp, 1200 lbs, street-legal. *WOW*

http://www.arielatom.com/ariel/site.php

Go to SHOWROOM. Click on VIDEO. Watch both videos, Top Gear and 5th Gear.

This is really amazing. A completely hand-built, street legal car with the bare essentials, built only for speed. Faster than an Enzo, as reliable as your civic, and as cheap as nuts; it should be available in the USA soon. You really must watch that video, and see what Clarckson has to say about this. That stuff coming from a man who has driven and critiqued, for all practical purposes, most of the cars ever produced, ought to mean something! 500 kg with 300 hp with four wheels? Watch the video as this little demon leaves a CBR motorbike in the dust!

Considering that this thing can be used as a reliable daily driver, it just blew the doors off supercar competition.

Thats amazing hard choice in motors though, the gm option has more torque but with the honda motor you get a 6 speed. I say screw all of those and just drop in a 4g63

I've seen the Top Gear one many times. To put it simply, it's a god damn beast! I want it in right hand drive! hehe

Yeah its sweet, but I hardly see it being allowed to be street driven in the US. Something that freaking quick would claim the lives of so many, particulary new drivers whose parents have deep pockets. Insurance would absolutely screw people in the shit hole. Also, dont cars have to have a wind shield?

I know what you mean, but if you look at the site the plant is based in oregon so it has to be street legal in the us, well doesn't HAVE to be but it would only make sence

That car is definitely bad ass. I wouldn't say it's a daily driver though. Have you guys seen the top geer with the Evo FQ400? It did the track in 1:24.8. I couldn't see it but it looked like the Atom was under 1:20. Only car that beat it was the Enzo.

I never get tired of watching that video. I posted it up here about a week ago, and have sence shown just about everyone I work with and know that car.

I did, that was one of the best episodes ever. During the test drive, Jeremy was power sliding it....WITH ONE FINGER! Then when they matched it up against the Mercielago, man, that was amazing.

Yeah, that was cool. It was kinda weird though because if you look at their chart the Mercielago was more than a sec faster. That FQ400 vid also gets credit for the dumbest part of any vid I've seen. When they put it in the like fifth gear going 10 mph and say it has horrible turbo lag. HOW BOUT PUTTING IT IN THE RIGHT GEAR? You could put it in reverse and step on it and say "look at this, blyme, we're not going foreward!"

there is another car out there called the K1 attack car, its made by mid-atlantic concepts. has the same sort of chassis/ motor design. uses a turbocharged Type-R motor. i think it looks alot better than the atom.
check it out... http://www.k1-attack.cz/video.html

Yeah dude, the K1 Attack. I saw it in I think Sport Compact magazine but I'm not sure. Definately really sweet. Thats the kind of stuff I want to do for a living... creating and building concepts but more towards hydogen cars or something like that.

Wasnt that Attack originally built from the parts of an Accord or something? I think its weird that they used Honda engines, but I guess the lack of torque fits the car, if it had alot of torque it would just be spinning. I would want to change the Atom by making it fully enclosed, it would look like a small Le Mans car. That would be cool. Carbon fiber of course so the weight wouldnt increase too much
