Unhappy smokey mornings

My 1985 cutty likes to smoke but i dont.
When i first start the car in the mornigs the start up is ruff and rocky. the car shakes and sounds terible then it calms down to a normal sound and rythem. But soon afer it being ok it start to billow smoke from the tail pipe turning my small drive way into a foggy scene from a movie. The colud has a strong fule smell...but after a little wile ( 5 mins ) it subsides and isnon exsistant.. so is this something i can fix or mabey a clue to future problems? Please help me

Re: smokey mornings

it sounds normal to me.

the engine is cold so it doesnt start easily,
it smells like fuel because the choke is on so its sending unburnt fuel out the tailpipe,
the cloud is normal as long as its a light grey, if its white it could be burning coolent and if its blue it could be burning oil.
it calms down after 5 mins is because the choke shut off and it idles lower when the choke is off.

my car likes to make a fog scene too on cold days
