Question 2000 Focus Wont Crank

This is very weird, I have called Ford dealerships multiple times and places and no one has any idea what happened. I have a 2000 Ford Focus SE 4 Door.

My car was getting its battery replaced because it was starting to get low on AMPS. So i place in a new battery. Tighen everything down and hope back into my car to start it up. Key goes into ignition turns all the way till the Lights come on in the car and radio works, but wont crank or turn over the engine not even a little sound of an attempt. After further inspection my steering wheel is locked, my transmition is stuck in park, windows dont work, and mileage is showing up as Dashes (-----).

I went back and replaced the new battery with my old one thinking that the battery was bad and i get the same results now. It just wont turn over almost to the point that I believe that the PAT (Passive Antitheft System) thinks the car is being stolen. I am using my stock key to start the car too.

Personally i believe that my key was removed from the systems memory when replacing the battery but I am unsure and Ford claims they dont understand and want me to tow it in and pay numerous amount of money to fix it.

If it is my key, is there a way to reenter it back into the car, or does anyone else know what is wrong.

Re: 2000 Focus Wont Crank

the key code should be always in the system, it's not stored on the type of memory that can "forget" when it dosent have power, i would guess it's your ignition, because it's the position of the key in the ignition that locks the wheel (also i do believe you need to push the brakes to remove it from park) but i assume you know that, and in my old car you also had to have the key in the propper position to remove it from park. all the anittheft system will do is shut the car down after it assumes it has been stolen, happened to a friend of mine when he got a key cut for his kid, he drove it out of the driveway and then it shut down and wouldent start, plugged in the computer and it came up as stolen, so i doubt thats the issue, i would bet it has something to do with the ignition
