90 Astro Van Blower Fan/Blower not working

My front blower motor suddenly stopped working the other day on my 1990 Astro Van.
I traced the problem to a "loose" connection on the actual blower motor in the larger of the two wire plug in connections (purple colored wire)that enter in to it. I wiggled it around and it worked temporarily, but now its gone completely.
I tried taking everything apart, and believe that the internal connection in the motor for that larger plug in is at fault.
I tried taking the fan off the motor, and undid the nut that I thought held it on. I thought the fan would just slide off. No go, it stays on there as tight as ever.
I tried gently prying it off but no luck.
I am going to replace the blower motor ($30 on eBay) but I need to get the fan off to first of all get the old unit out of the engine compartment, and to mount it on the new blower motor.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Re: 90 Astro Van Blower Fan/Blower not working

Blower motor went out on my other 92 a few months back...I took it out and checked it with a volt meter seeing if it had any resistance..It did, so I replaced it...Napa charged me $20 I think......
