2000 vitara-OBD II OR III?

Hi.I was about to purchase a scan tool for my OBD II cars and wondered if it would work on my son's 2000 Vitara. Does anyone know if it uses OBD II or OBD III?

Should be obd2

I don't think that obd3 started till 03 or 04
