98 git vr6 power cutoff

Hello I was wondering if anyone could help diagnose a problem my 98 ~90'000 mile GTI VR6 5 speed manual is having. First thing that happened was my battery died. Then my clutch went out immediately afterward. I had the clutch replaced but as I was driving it from the shop it messed up. The idle is really low and when I hit about 20 mph the engine stops givin me any power. It feels just like the fuel cutoff or revlimiter is kicking in. Similar to when you rev the engine to redline and it cuts you off. The check engine light is on and I took it back to the transmission place for them to look at it and see if they can find out whats up with it. I had them replace the fuel filter but they said that had no effect on it. Do you think its something they did when they replaced the clutch or am i just having just a string of bad luck? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 98 git vr6 power cutoff

your clutch might be slipping, wonder if they installed the clutch properly and machined the flywheel correctly

The transmission place checked the engine code for me and said it had something to do with the mass airflow sensor. I had it towed to a shop that specializes in german cars so hopefully they can figure it all out and fix if for me. I'll keep yall posted.
