13B only a 1300cc?

Guys and girls, how is it possible for a 13B to be a 1300cc and make so much horses (For a 1300cc that is)? Is it a 1300cc? And a 20B being a 2000cc? The 20B sound like a damn V8!! It just doesn't make a lot of sense! Pls be so kind to show me the light!

A prosperous new year for you all.

Re: 13B only a 1300cc?

Do the math- 1300cc refers to the swept area under the rotor. Each rotor in a 13b engine has three lobes and there are two rotors in a 13b. Therefore you have 6 lobes making a power stroke each time the complete engine turns over once. Lots of those "little" 1300 cc engines have been tweaked to well over 350 hp. Only issue is that a rotaary's power comes from rpm and not displacement. They are something.BJ

Re: 13B only a 1300cc?

There has been much debate on how to rate rotaries for displacement in motorsports. Yes, to be precise the 13b displaces 1308cc of volume with each power stroke. But it makes power on every revolution of the engine instead of every other rev like a 4-stroke piston engine does (well, to still be precise the wankel makes 3 power strokes per revolution but the output shaft spins at 3x the rate of the rotors so it equals one). Thus, for racing purposes, the 13b is rated as either a 2L or 2.6L (1.5x or 2x) depending on the series (if it isn't banned altogether). In Japan the 13b is rated as a 2L for tax purposes.
