Remote key programming

I need a new key fob for my 2000 t and c (it's my wife's car really).
I see that people have these on ebay, with and without programming instructions. Are programming instruction readily available and if so from where?
Also which numbers need to be identical, on the rear of the fob.
There are 3 numbers
MODEL/ FCC ID: GQ43VT17T
P/N: 04686481 AC

CANADA# 1470 102 1294
I'm assuming the part numbers need to be identical but what about the others?

Programming instructions are only helpful if you already have one working remote, and want to add another. You can have up to four remotes with the TRW Keyless entry system you have.

I bought my remotes from the ebay user "RemoteSuperStore", and I would highly recommend this seller. In spite of the high volume of sales, they were responsive to emails, even after all feedback had been exchanged. They also have good policies about combined shipping.

The important number is the FCC ID. There are at least a dozen differant part numbers for remotes that have the GQ43VT17T FCCID. The differance is the number of buttons (Power sliding doors, power seat presets, for example). The "FCC ID" is the ID assigned by the Federal Communications Commision, and hence the compatibility of the remote. I have these remotes in a drawer
p/n 04686481 (Panic Lock Unlock)
p/n 04602260 (Panic Lock Unlock Trunk)
both have FCC ID GQ43VT17T

Both could be programmed for your van, although the "Trunk" button probably won't do anything (that remote was for a Dodge Sebring).

If you don't have any working remotes, you have two choices:
1) Take it to the dealer, and they can program all your remotes at once using thier $5000 DRBIII tool. Depending on how nice the dealer is, they might do this for free (it takes 5 minutes), but more likely, they will try to charge you a lot more than you paid for the remotes on ebay. They typically will program the remotes for free, if you buy a remote from them (but expect to pay more than $50 each for them).

2) I have heard that you can program the remotes yourself by shorting a wire to ground. The first step is to take the top of the dashboard off to expose the RKE receiver (this is easier than it sounds). Note: RKE == Remote Keyless Entry. The RKE receiver you have that works with that FCCID is black, and about the size of a cigarette pack. It has a sticker on it with the TRW logo, plus the FCC ID GQ43VT16R on it. In my 2001 Voyager, it is located about halfway between the speedometer, and the Defroster vent.

One of the 6 wires coming out of the RKE Receiver is the programing wire. When the dealer uses the scan tool, they are sending commands to the Body Control Module to short that wire to ground. I have heard that you can do the same thing yourself with a jumper wire, and get the RKE Recever into program mode.

Re: Remote key programming

You wouldn't happen to know what wire needs to be grounded?
