jdq, I've read about "sludge" in other web-sites regarding Durangos. I personally will always use a synthetic oil when ever possible. The only time I'll use a conventional oil would be when my pocketbook just won't handle it anymore. Regardless of the brand keep it up on usage of the synthetic oil and I beleive the "sludge" problem will dissapear. In addition change th oil at the proper intervals. Good luck, rimfire,22 |

Re: oil change
Check your manual, use what is says, if it says use 5w-30 then ...
I use 5w-30 in my '00 CG 3.8l and 5w-40 in my '98 Cherokee 4.0l. The Cherokee says to use 10-30 but I found that while idling for a long time when it was hot, the oil pressure dropped to about 10psi. When I switched to 5w-40 I had the same oil pressure cold but when it was hot it holds about 20psi and still goes to 50psi when the RPMS go up.. |

TonyPa, I match the weight of oil to my owners manual. In my case it says to use 5W-30 type. As far as brand is concerned to remain as practical as possible I think whatever brand you choose is fine. I won't matter anyway in price cuz they all are about the same. Since you just got your Durango I'd wait til the engines broken-in before I start using a synthetic. Perhaps 6 months will due. I waited til almost 1 year for mine. I usually take my oil to the dealership and have them use that. You could always ask if they could use the same oil as the one for the "Viper" as synthetic oil is standard for that model. I just don't know what the weight is so check them on that.
