1985 Jeep Cherokee

I have a 1985 Jeep Cherokee, 2.8L V6, and it accelarates sometimes when I'm on the road without pushing the gas pedal. I have to brake frequently because I'm afraid of hiting the car in front of me. Can it have something to do with the cruise control?

Re: 1985 Jeep Cherokee

I would first disconnect the cruise control cable

Then check for a broken motor mount.

Make sure the ign. timing is set correctly.

Then check to see if the idle kicker settings are correct.

Re: 1985 Jeep Cherokee

You should also check to see that the choke is not closing partially and putting the fast idle cam in play.

I have also seen the throttle shafts wear and stick open slightly and intermittantly.
