transmission work...

Hi there...
My name is sobe and I am 26. I have had my 1988 Crown Victoria for seven and a half years now, Victor is my baby Yesterday I was driving about 40 miles an hour and my trans (I think it's the trans)the car got stuck in first gear and wouldn't shift... I barely made it home.
My car has about 159,000 (It rolled over once) miles on it. Is there anything else that could go wrong once I fix him? I heard before once the trans goes everything else will follow. It's a great car and I'd hate to give him up.

Re: transmission work...

There's a bar that goes from the throttle to the trany. Where it connects broke on my car (84 2dr Vic) once a did the same thing. Got home holding it together with bailing wire Git-r-done!

Re: transmission work...

I would have your TV cable checked out it sounds like the rubber sleeve on it has broken. or it is just out of adjustment. What the Tv cable does is controls line pressure, shift point and feel, along with part throttle downshifts.

Thank you guys.... I will be sure to have my friend look at what you suggested. What do you think is the average mileage for these older Crown Vics before you shouldn't put any more money into them?

Re: transmission work...

Depends on shape of body and how long you want to keep it.

Re: transmission work...

The older crown vic engines will last a long time along with the body if kept up. But I have seen an older crown vic go close to 300,000 miles with just minor problems. But I have also heard of other peoples crown vics going past 300,000 miles.
