Garrett GT30/40R Turbocharger

anyone have any info on this turbo? spool up, A/R ratios? saw this turbo, i think it has A/R choices of .63 all the way up to 1.03? not sure though, cant find anywhere that sells them (maybe im not looking hard enough) although i did happen to find a Car that is running it. Car dyno'd at 451whp, on 93 octane gas...so it had to be a realitivly low PSI...so im guessing...wondering a price on this turbo, and specs.

umm....

Phoenixturbo.com has a T3/GT40 which would be a great turbo for the KA even though the T3/T04E 50 trim is the best matched turbo for the KA. This T3/GT40 has a T3 turbine for better spool and the GT40 compressor housing with a GT35R coompressor for higher flow rate.

http://store.yahoo.com/cheapturbo/t3b.html

BTW...I dont think there is a GT30/GT40 just because the sole fact that GT30 and GT40 generally apply to the compressor side of the turbo and not pertaining to the Turbine side.

Re: Garrett GT30/40R Turbocharger

i would personally just go with a gt35r if you want big hp.
go with the .63 a/r though, relatively quick spool up, lol, kinda.
just go over to ka-t.org and look at some dyno sheets.
http://www.ka-t.org/rick/images/633dynosmall.jpg
thats ricks .83 a/r, he made 633.7 rwhp and 511.9 ft.lbs at 34 psi
and brad D hit 511 whp and 446 ft.lbs at 29 psi of boost, with the .63 a/r

Re: Garrett GT30/40R Turbocharger

infact, if you are shooting for 500whp like i am, i e-mailed ATP like 2 days ago, and told them my engine and stuff, and what hp i was looking for, and this is what they said:

Hi Tim,

The GT2876R would not be good for the job. It's a 400HP on paper, but you
have to wring it out pretty good and the small turbine wheel on it makes it
not a good fit your your relatively large engine.

You're stuck between a GT3071R and GT3076R.

The GT3076R is the right turbo for the job (500WHP), but the GT3071R can get
you 450HP but spool up so alsome for the turbo size, a lot of people end of
making a compromise to enjoy the fatter power band. That's not to say that
the GT3076R will spool up nicely on your engine, it's just that on that same
engine the GT3071R will spool at least 600 rpms earlier than the GT3076R and
makes for a wider power band when operating under 450HP. When going to
500WHP, the GT3076R is the only turbo for the job hands down.

Thanks!

ATP

That is customer service if i've ever saw it.

Re: Garrett GT30/40R Turbocharger

well what im looking for in a turbo, is around 360-400whp on 18psi, instead of the 24psi it is now...so i have more daily driven hp. but the gt3071r looks promising thanks tim

T3/T04E 50 trim with .63 A/R will get you the goals you shoot for and hit full boost at about 3500 RPM.

Thats my turof choice
