Question 2005 Suburban cruise hard shifts

My mother in law owns a 2005 Suburban w/23K miles. When she travels on cruise control at highway speeds, it downshifts hard from 4th to 2nd, making the tach (and everyone in the vehicle) jump high. This is surely not normal, as when holding speed up the same hill w/o cruise on it only shifts from 4th to 3rd. Anyone have an idea?

Re: 2005 Suburban cruise hard shifts

It's just the nature of the beast. My 03 does the same thing. I get to where I just kick it off cruise as I approach hills. The system is just not sophisticated enough to accelerate smoothly, instead it just takes the "hammer it home" approach. Nothing is wrong it's just the way it is. Tell her to use the footfeed on hills and after the climb is done then hit resume.
