My project truck...

I own a 1980 GMC Sierra 15 (C/1500). I have been restoring it for about a year now and have decided to make it a sleeper or what ever you call it when you put new tech in side but leave the outside mostly stock. I have installed a 350 SB (the old one my dad for got to change the oil) and a 400turbo. and I think it has a GM 10 bolt rear, but im not sure. It got its new paint in Oct. 05' (dark red) and repowder coated the wheels and brushgard. Replaced the radio antenna.I also got the bed sprayed with LINE-X.

I need to or would like to redo the suspension and maybe a LSD. Im also thinking about putting larger tires on. It needs new bummpers, inteior, vent windows, rubber, mirrors, door handles, and the other minior details. The RUST HAS TO BE REMOVED for I wish to reundercoat the underside of the truck, or can you just cover the rust and the factorie undercoat? On a scale 1-10 the damage is at least a 6.

Currently, I am looking for new shocks, and am stuck on what to chose. I want the best but not spend over $400. http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/iasshock_index.html
or
http://www.bilstein.com/mistore/prod...pany_id=100484

I have also need new bushings, every where (most are missing) and i am looking at Energy Suspention http://www.energysuspension.com/

What do you think i should do, that gives the best preformence for the buck?

Also on a last note, the truck has only 43,000 miles.

Thank you for your time,
Jake

Re: My project truck...

Honestly I have no information about the parts you want. However, I do know I want to see some pics of your truck.

Re: My project truck...

lol im restoring the same exact kind of truck, a 73 c-10, i guess the front clip is different but thats it... i just took litterally everything off the frame and i ended up tipping the cab over on 2x4-s with the underside then facing sideways up and down to easily clean and coat the surfaces with a good truck bed coating... right now its hibernating in my garage in chilly nebraska until spring when i can keep working on the primer on the cab lol

Re: My project truck...

I am unable to provide an image currently, but when I figure out how or get it hosted ill provide it then.

I have also decided to add 2 leafs in the rear, to prevent bottoming out when we pull our trailars, mulch, fire wood, ect. I can't find a place that sells an add-a-leaf kit, execpt skyjacker. Even then there kit is for 4-wheel drive(K trucks)

A new cat-back is looking promesing in the next couple months, along with some engine mods.

I will have to put on an undercoat with everything on the truck(lines, body, the works, so I will have to paint it on. Does any one know about POR-15 paint over rust products?

Re: My project truck...

yeah por 15 is amazing i have used it and it is hard to even key it off to bare metal. its very durable and only needs to be topcoated if there will be sunlight on it. the u.v. rays would discolor it or something so you have to put some spray paint over it or something for direct sun exposure.
