Front differential fluid changeout?
Hi, the last time i changed out my front differential fluid was 30,000 miles ago, so i am thinking of changing it out again, but ever since i changed it out 30,000 miles ago, i only used the 4wd a few time, so i am wondering if i should still change it or its okay to wait. I just changed out my rear differenital fluid and the fluid looked pretty new and clean. Same goes for my transfer case too, should i change out the oil in there?
Thanks |

Re: Front differential fluid changeout?
it wouldn't hurt.
it's like oil, even if you don't drive 3000 miles, you still have a time limit that you should abide by. if you're under the truck, might as well do it all.

If you don't dunk the axles in water, I like to change out the axle(s) and xfer case oil once at around 30-40K miles, then again above 100K. There a billion RWD and 4x4 trucks that rusted away & fell apart w/out ever having changed the gear lube in the diffys. Xfer case oil usually gets changed at some point due to a leak and/or maintenance.

I just changed mine for the first time in 75K miles. When I took the bolt out to drain the old fluid, nothing came out
, ended up poking a clotheshanger up the hole to dislodge some gasketing material, then fluid started coming out. It certainly didn't drain very fast!
