Exhaust modification

I flattened out my stock exhaust on a hunk of snow, and just replaced it with a DynoMax Super Turbo. I had them completely remove the Cat. and replace it with pipe.

Question: With the Catalytic converter eliminated, other then pollution, will removal cause problems for the computer, or other potential problems with normal running.

You should get an 02 simulator so the ecm doesn't flake out.

Would an O2 emulator really be necessary? I’m guessing that it would replace the O2 sensor, or am I far field? The O2 sensor is located before the catalytic converter. The ECM constantly monitors the O2 sensor for the ideal air/fuel mixture ratio for minimizing exhaust emissions, thus allowing the cat to operate at maximum efficiency.

So the ECM and the O2 sensor are still producing optimum efficient emissions for the cat, except the cat is not there to take advantage.

The only thing that comes to mind is that the cat. was a bottle neck thus backing up the emissions to the o2 sensor . So maybe the O2 sensor was taking its reading form a higher concentration of gases, as opposed to a lesser concentration.

Can you please explain how by what you meant, I’m only piecing things together from ‘logic’.

A good catalytic converter will flow with less restriction than any OE style muffler. If you hold a new converter up to a light, you can see straight through it. As far as affecting performance, no. On vehicles with an oxygen sensor after the converter, the sole purpose of that sensor is to evaluate the performance of the downstream converter. NOTE: Be aware that there is a VERY stiff fine by the EPA for modifying an emission system.

The O2 sensor will not work correctly without the cat, it causes the exhaust gases to blow by the sensor too quick causing the ecu to get an inaccurate reading of the air fuel mixture
