How do I disconnect the fan...there's more

How do I disconnect the fan from the ignition. Atleast I think that's what it is. When I turn the key, the fan comes on. The last owner did this because the 305(third gen auto) was "overheating". Maybe it was overheating but it ain't now so can you tell me where these wires may be hooked up or...maybe this is stupid for asking but it there a tutorial? eheh, I think this A/C is draining too much power from my battery.

I just got a new more powerful battery but still I want to disconnect the fan and reconnect it to the A/C controls. Thanks a lot and happy new year camaro guys and gals!

oh, so they 'hotwired' the secondary to an ign. switch source I take it.

Back trace it from the fan, shoudln't be all that hard to track down.

Alright going to trace the wire now, and it should be connected to the throttle body or next to it?

It s/b connected to the a/c compressor.

Common bypass I've seen is to splice the wire right at the fan and run it over to the primary fan's relay hot feed.

Re: How do I disconnect the fan...there's more

Im having the opposite problem. Neither one of my fans will kick on. I replaced the coolant temp sensor. I even replaced the temp sending unit. The car didnt really run past 220 unless it sat for a while so nothing was really wrong except i had no fans. Now I replaced the sending unit and the motor goes wayyy hot according the the dash guage, past the third line. I guess that could be wrong too. So I really dont know how hot my car is getting...I just want my fans to turn on...

dont mean to thread jack. Just adding to the conversation.

92z, did you try grounding the temp sensor wire? (the one between 6&8) The primary should come on, if it does then you might jsut need a new CTsS.

Rally, you're confusing me, what are you getting at?

Re: How do I disconnect the fan...there's more

still nobody said what the s/b is

Alright I think I found it. The radiator fan wire is spliced into an aftermarket wire that extends to the upper left hand corner above the engine.

I'm guessing that should be diconnected and reattached to where all the other wires go, this plastic fuse box kinda thing. Right?
