96 Taurus front wipers won't work

The fuses are okay. I read something about a GEM sensor, Could it be that or did the motor go? Where is the wiper motor? Also, my washer squirts aren't working now, are they tied together?

Thanks Ken

Re: 96 Taurus front wipers won't work

Very similar thing happened to me, except I have a '95 and the wipers will come on, but only if I turn them all the way to full blast. And then, when I turn them off, they stop dead in their tracks, no matter if they're right in the middle of the windshield or not. It's like a little, yet annoying game, to get them to stop near the bottom of the windshield. However, they never actually "park" themselves below the hood like they used to. I too have heard rumors about some kind of module, this after buying a new multi-function switch (which is the stem-like lever that mounts to the steering column.) It made absolutely no difference. The connection at the motor is good, it just gets zero volts at any level of intermittence, other than 'full blast'. By the way, if the 96 is comparable, the wiper motor is visible if you lift the hood, follow the driver side wiper arm down to its source, there's a motor under a plastic cowling. So if anyone out there knows a good way to get the wipers to work, on a '95 or '96 Ford, without having to shell out big bucks...
I feel I am fortunate since I can get by with high-speed, and play with stopping the wipers at the right time, but if it ever got worse, or more annoying, such as complete failure, I would definitely track that bast**d electronic module, pull it out, and see if I could solder it back together. Until then I will non-chalantly browse the manuals at the Autozone for a better description of its location, and keep an ear out for better remedies.

Re: 96 Taurus front wipers won't work

For the 95, the problem is the parking circuit is fried,, usually happens if the wipers are turned on and something prevents them from moving, such as being frozen to the window, my wife did it to her car, even though countless times I told her to make sure the blades were free from the glass, I think the parking circuit is integral with the motor, the seperate module may be for the operation of the intermittant mode.. for the 96 your wiper motor is right below the windshield, pop the hood,, it may be under the cowl..

Thanks

I found the wiper motor earlier tonight, I think it's still working. When I was outside playing with it, I had the wiper switch turned on. I heard two different noises, one coming from the fuse box in the engine and the other was a wierd humming noise from the wiper motor. I tried pulling on the wipers but the were locked in place.. Do you still think it's the motor?

Wipers on '98 Taurus sedan run full blast and when turned down on switch, they stop.
I've heard that replacing the multi-function wand on steering column fails to work>
