help =(

Today i was on my way to get a haircut....and my car just freaks out...like the console just started clicking eratically, and the rpm's went crazy, they kept dropping and going back up, the engine light came on, and it bucked wildly ( because of the rpm's dropping and going back up) well when i got there, i shut it off, then when i started it...it wouldnt start at first, then i gave it some gas and it started but wouldnt hold idle so i had to keep gas going to it...then after i got my haircut..i went back and started it with the same method of giving it a lot of gas ..but it bucked wildly on the way home and the clicking persisted...about half way home it ran fine...what do you guys think?

I'm not really sure about the bucking and engine light or the console clikcing. But with the car idling, the IAC motor sensor thingy could be cleaned. There are instructions for it at www.stealth316.com In my old SL, the idle would jump all around to the point where it would stall. Before I cleaned it I would have to keep the A/C on in order to keep it running when my foot was off the gas.

Re: help =(

First off, what car do you have? Model, trim, year, tranny...

Secondly, get the code pulled from teh ECU to figure out why the check engine light came on. If you have a 96+ any autozone will do this for free. If you have an older one, the stealth316 site above has directions. This will be the quickest way to determining the problem.

The console clicking erratically sounds electrical. Possilbly the MFI relay? The rest could be spark plugs, but honestly, with all of that happening simultaneously, I bet there is one over-ruling cause, and the ecu code will lead you to it.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Re: help =(

im not positive but have you checked your Mass Air Flow sensor? mine got loose one time, and the idle went crazy like what you described. So i would check that, and make sure all your sensors are secure
