Camshaft Position Sensor

when I ordered the Crank Sensor from Jeep $77, I also inquired as to the where and why for a Cam Pos Sensor. He told me that the Sensor is located in the oil pump drive gears that also have a shear pin in them . He also stated that these sensors go bad just as much as anything else on the Jeep. Also that the shear pins break enough times causing the sensor not to turn so to look for that also. He sells alot of both. I was pretty sure he said location on -Oil Pump Drive-- I was like freakin what-where--I kept the sensor anyway -might as well replace that 2 while I'm at it. I told him we will be talking quite often to which he agreed. Real nice guy. So is this true where the Cam Sensor is or did I hear him wrong. You guys have been great and I hope to have this baby firing up in the next 24hrs .. PLEASE --I;ve paid my dues. Just 1 little sputter and I'll be happy--Chris

CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR---- 4.0 ENGINE
The camshaft position sensor ( CMP) on the 4.0 6- cylinder is bolted to the top of the oil pump drive shaft assembly. The sensor and drive shaft assembly is located on the right side of engine near the oil filter. The rotational position of oil pump drive determines fuel synchronizational ONLY. It does not determine ignition timing.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ROTATE THE OIL PUMP DRIVE TO MODIFY IGNITION TIMING. The ( CMP ) replaces the distributor assembly starting in year 2000. jeepman600#sbcglobal.net

Thanks Dale I knew it had to do with the fuel timing but had no idea where it would go. He said where the distributor used to be but your answer was on-time and just what the doctor ordered. Thanks again. Could'nt be even trying all these things without you guys.---Chris
