multifunction turn signal lever

I have a 1988 K1500 that needs the multifunction turn signal lever replaced due to a broken wire where it goes into the steering column. How do I get the lever pulled out of the steering column to replace it with a new one? Do I need to pull my steering wheel to accomplish this?

Yes if I recall correctlly the lockplate, and the trun signal switch have to be removed ,and then you have to snake the wiring through the colum to reach the connector at the base of the column under the dash. To get the steering wheel off, most of the time you need a puller and to get the lock plate off you also need a dedicated tool. All in all a pain in the ass. Probally best to let someone else do it unless you have the tools.
