Flip the heater switch and NO air comes out

Hey there,

I have a 1989 Dodge Dakota 4x4 and a couple days ago I was getting ready to go to school. I went outside and turned on the car and then turned on the heat to defrost the windshield. When I turned on the heater, NO AIR came out. I was wondering if it was the fan or core I needed to replace. It would be very helpful if you could give me a step-by-step approach to solving this problem. Thanks a lot. I would really like to get this fixed ASAP.

Did you check your blower motor fuse?

Check the fan speed resistor block. Here's what I did on mine: http://gbrannon.bizhat.com/resistorbox.htm

I had the same problem and I figured it was my control in my truck. But silly me, before I bought a new Blower Motor I didn't check it, so I got the new motor in and it still didn't work. But if I make my own ground I can get it to work...so. But I might try gb's Idea.

I just had the same problem in my truck 1993 Dakota Sport 4 x 4. Pull the fuse in the engine compartment. One of the ones in the main box. Check it and if it is good shake it some, clean it and put it back in. Trust me, mine worked. No $ spent.

I would do that, but there isn't a main fuse box in the engine compartment in my truck.

Did you hve any success with yours?
I updated my link above with a wiring diagram in case you are having a wiring problem. The diagram in the Haynes manual doesn't show the resistor block.

Greg

Re: Flip the heater switch and NO air comes out

I haven't tried yet, it's too freaking cold to work on my truck, but when I get a chance I'll look. Right now I have a toggle switch hooked up to my GROUND wire for my blower motor, for some reason it must be the ground that is screwed up. So, I'll have to reconnect my blower motor to my controls before I do anything.

Re: Flip the heater switch and NO air comes out

Hope it warms up for you soon; I don't miss the really cold weather at all.
Yep, the resistor block and switches are all on the ground side of the blower.

Greg

Re: Flip the heater switch and NO air comes out

I wonder which Chrysler engineer had the bright idea of controlling the blower motor with the ground........
