How much PSI should be in my tires ?

I took it to dealership to get warranty stuff fix, anyways that was like 3weeks ago.Anyways i was checking out my tires psi , it was 37 psi. So i take it they put it 40psi in the tires. I always have put in 35 psi in my tires. Anyways ,which one is right ? Also i seem to be getting better MPG when i have 35psi.

It's 16inch wheel,2002,1500 reggular silverado.

Depends on the tire. Read the specs on the tire. My max rating is 44lbs so i fill it with 40-42.

Re: How much PSI should be in my tires ?

Best thing to do is play with the pressures with each fill up. Get your own pressure gauge (I dont like the ones they have on the fillers). Every tire is different. Add or take out a psi or two, till you find a ride you like and mpg's look good. I run 38 up front and 35 in the back.

Look on the tire placard on the drivers door.

Re: How much PSI should be in my tires ?

Most tires are rated at 60 psi, the bigger the tire, the lower the psi rating. At the tire shop I used to work at, we put 35 in everything. That was the best all around pressure for most tires/vehicles. I run 35 in everything I own, except my ford that has 35.16.15 on it. I run about 20 in them.

I run 40 psi on all 4 corners. I find the more you put the easier it is to light up the rearend...

Re: How much PSI should be in my tires ?

I have experimented with several different brands/models of tires in 400,000 highway miles with my Suburban.

Finally settled on BFG Radial T/A passenger tires, size 255/70X15 on my 15X8 Rally wheels. These are the exact diameter of the stock 235/75s but are a bit wider; better handling and rim protection.

The sidewall says 35 psi, but at that pressure the treads tend to wear on the edges. Maintained at 39 psi cold I get about 70,000 miles on a set.

Although somne dealers like Costco won't mount passenger car tires on a "truck", don't worry. My tires have a load rating of over 2100 lbs each, higher than OEM spec, and that's at 35 lbs.

Re: How much PSI should be in my tires ?

That just does not make any sense at all, more air in the tire will make it harder which will offer less rolling resistance making the truck easier to move which should increase gas mileage, not decrease it. As for what pressure should be run i think all depends on the tire you are using, check what it says on the tire itself for the pressure of course taking into consideration whether or not they are properly suited to your vehicle, ie, you are not using a tire that has a high load rating so it calls for higher pressure ect.

Re: How much PSI should be in my tires ?

I run the original size 265's in the Cooper AT. I ran the recommended 35 PSI at all 4 corners. I just measured the tread depth across the tires in several places and saw serious center tread wear. I'm dropping to 30 PSI to see if that helps.

Re: How much PSI should be in my tires ?

That all depends on the size, load range, and setup of the truck. My old tires were an E load range and recomended 65 psi, I ran 50 psi. This set is a C load range and recomends 50 psi, currently running 40 psi, with normal tread wear. When I load down the back I will run them to 50 psi.
