1989 2600i differential issues
I just recently broke my differential. what I was wondering was what type of differential it was (I believe it's a ford 8"), where I could get a new one, or if there is an alternative to the one that was on there.

The diff is 7.75" I think, as far as I'm aware it is mazda all the way, never heard of anything else that interchages.

I have a 1991 B2600i 4x4 5spd with a shot pinion bearing and blown seal, most have told me that it is not worth it to simply replace the bearing and seal as it will probably not mesh well againg after driving it the way it is now for so long (3 months easy driving). I was told there is a thread on toyota rearend swaps, could someone point it out to me? Does anyone know where I can get a reasonable used rear-end? Will replacing the seal and bearing be worthwhile? What years are compatible for my rear-end?

89,90,91,92,93 Mazda B2600i 4x4 rears are the same.U didnt say how many miles are on the truck but the 2600 rears are really pretty stout unless they have been neglected or abused.I would replace the pinion bearing and seal,change to synthetic gear lube and see if u cant keep it running without swapping rears.U never know what u r getting with used parts.BJ

Apparently there are two bearings in the pumpkin, a front and a rear, should I replace both of them no matter what? What if I pull the diff out and inspect it before dropping $100+ on bearings, seals, etc. what would be the things to look for as an indication that the rear-end is definitely toast?

If u pull the rear and inspect,u need to look for broken or worn(they will have an obvious dip in the middle instead of being straight across) gear teeth,signs of "galling" or overheating which usually results in the gears turning a light shade of blue instead of being normally shiny,excessive lash or end play between axles and main gear,clicking or grinding when the gears are turned,lots of metal in the gear oil itself.I think most of the load is on the front pinion bearing but if one is shot so is the other.BJ
