Stupid Engine Question

How do you know which 5.3L engine you have? 295hp or 310hp. Bought the car used, knew it had the V8 5.3, but didn't know there were two versions.

Re: Stupid Engine Question

You should also be able to give the VIN to a dealership and they'll be able to tell you. Also (and I don't know where to find the answer or which code gives the answer) but inside your glove box is the sticker with all the codes on it. You might be able to research which one to look for and check on it that way. Good luck.

If you have a crew cab, it will be the 295. I don't know why, but Chevy doesn't offer the 310hp on the crew. It was optional on regular and extended cabs.

is the 310HP engine an option on the standard cab for '06 ?

Also beside the aluminum block, what is different on the H.O. engines? where is the extra HP being made?

Thanks,

-Eric

By the way it's a 2005 1500 Ext CaB SB LT 4wd 5.3L. I think L33. I guess I'll call my dealer to find out. Thanks for the info though. All I know is it hauls ass. Sounds nice stock, but I can't wait to put a Gibson Dual Extreme on.
