I have a 1996 S10. I have searched around through various sights and still can't find a specific answer to the problem. The truck was involved in an accident on the front drivers side a few months ago and was driven for a for about 8 weeks before any problems occured. The truck runs fine once started but sometimes it will not start. I have noticed that the security light comes on and have reason to believe that this might be the source of the problem. Does anyone know more about the security light that comes on and how this can be fixed. Thank you in advance.

Re: Truck won't start when security light is on
Sounds like your key is going bad. Well, pending your key has the electric chip imbedded in it. (It's black, you can't miss it). The chip is either dirty or the key is bad. They are not too expensive to reaplce.

Re: Truck won't start when security light is on
also wondering what the "factory" security system is, my '98/2.2LS 2wd has it, but no chip in key. when i first bought the truck, stalled it a couple times getting used to the clutch, and it came on once. manual says it needs to be serviced at the dealership if light doesn't go off after vehicle sitting an hour or two.....sounds kinda weird to me...lol
