5.3 Engine - 2wd VS 4wd

How much slower would a 4WD be in a quarter mile race vs an identical truck with 2WD?

Anyone know how much more a 4WD truck weighs compare to a 2WD?

Also what gears do you think would be better to get 3.73 or should I go with 4.10's. How much MPG would I lose going to a 4.10 gear from 3.73's?

I'll probably be running 33inch tires like my '01 has.

Thanks for the help..

Re: 5.3 Engine - 2wd VS 4wd

All I know is that my 5.3 Z71 will outrun alot of 5.3 2wd's around here. its got 3.73's. If you're going to run 33's, I'd suggest the 4.10s if you want a good launch. Other than that, 3.73s should work fine. my 285's are 33 inches tall and it still has almost the exact same power as it did with the factory 265's. As far as weight, I have no idea.

Re: 5.3 Engine - 2wd VS 4wd

I would guess a 2wd would be about 200 or so pounds lighter that a 4x4.

Re: 5.3 Engine - 2wd VS 4wd

yeah if everything else is the same, a 2 wheel drive will spank a 4, on dry pavement at least lol... that is unless you have so much power that you need all 4 wheels to be powered in order to keep them planted lol.

put it this way, its a truck, so who cares how fast it is. i would get a car like a camaro or something if i was into speeding up the car or racing. trucks are mostly to either haul stuff, or just because you want a truck (most cases actually).

but back to the 4x4 thing, a 4x4 truck with tons of power would be better off the line than a 2x4 after some speed though, i dunno really lol

Re: 5.3 Engine - 2wd VS 4wd

Well i'm going to be selling my mustang cobra and my truck to get a new truck,, but I want it to be a fast sport truck but I'd still like to have 4x4 for snowy trips to vermont and some remote fishing spots I know of. If I can make the 4WD a low 13 second truck I guess I'd be happy. If 4WD is only going to cost me a few tenths in the 1/4 mile then I'll get a 4WD but if it's going to cost me more then a second in the 1/4 mile then I'd consider getting 2WD.
I may just consider 2WD...

I know of some guys who live up North (White Lightening) who swear that a G80 locking rear diff. gets damn near the same traction as a 4wd. I know from personal experience that i have pulled up a mud covered hill from a dead stop in mine with no trouble. Just something to think about...
