Fan temp?

At what temperature should the cooling fan come on? My fan comes on at around 228 degrees. Does that seem high?
I have a 96 Lumina with a 3.1 engine.

Re: Fan temp?

Fans come on at 212 and 225 I think. In that neighborhood. Second fan should be on when the AC is on.

Are you actually reading the temp from the sensor (with a scan tool or an IR thermometor) or just from the dash guage? The dash guage is hardly accurate, even for general ballpark figures.

Which fan turns on? If its just the secondary check the primary's relay and the fan itself. Otherwise the PCM isn't getting the signal from the ECT or its skewed (loose connection or dirty connection can do that, its resistance-based and that can vary based on operational conditions of the wiring)

Re: Fan temp?

That is a normal temp for the fan to kick on.

Re: Re: Fan temp?

The Chevy dealer told me that my dash gage is out of cal and the fan comes on at 228. They used their scan tool. They also want to charge me between 3 and $400 to cal the gage. This is for the passenger side fan. They claim that the fan does go on, just my gage is ooc.
