Does GM have any plans?

Does GM have any plans on getting rid of their pushrod v8 engines? I know they have the Northstar 32valve, but do they plan to use it and dump the other engines (350 or whatever the new cubes are). Don't get me wrong, the 4.6Ford is good and the bottom end is actually stronger than the 5.0 & 5.8 (pushrod) engines. It's just, after 10 years of using the 4.6 in Mustangs I think there should be more progress than going from 215hp to 260hp(96-04). But, ofcourse they have 300hp now but they had to add an extra valve, 3 valves per cylinder. I know the Cobras had that in 96, but that's the Cobra. I JUST WISH FORD WOULD STICK WITH WHAT WORKS, AND THE 5.0 & 5.8 WORKED JUST FINE. Untill 93 when GM beefed up the 350 to 275hp then 285hp then 305(I think). Anyway, I just hope GM stays with the pushrod. I hate that Ford has those huge timmimg chains and two cams.

Re: Does GM have any plans?

well the lt1 was still 5.7l, or 350 cubic inches, so you could call it a 350

Re: Does GM have any plans?

yeah its the same rateing 350, we just dont always call them that now and days. what can we say man gm has a good thing going so why mess it up. a small block that can push out lots of power, ford well like i said before, they are more focused on being cost efficient and for many years have given up the few extra horses just to stay under budget. yes they have been slower over the years but they traded that off to sell more cars which in turn burried everyone else they were in compitition with.

Small block 16 valve pushrod???

550 crank horsepower.....something tells me they will stick to the pushrods.

No start yet.

Having a friend come over with HPTuners tomorrow afternoon/night. Hoping that will work. Battery appears to be dead as well.

The latest news is of a 6.2 liter supercharged LS9, but that is just rumored for a new Corvette SS.
