Angry Not the fuse

Help. My cigarette lighter and power plug do not work, (cannot charge phone or IPOD) This is on a Chevy Siverado 2004. I am pretty stupid when it comes to electrical problems.

Can anyone tell me what else the problem could be? (I changed the 15v fuse with no change. Thanks you folks.

Re: Not the fuse

Use a test light to test:
1. The fuse itself when its plugged into the fuse block, (both sides) to make sure the circuit is actually receiving power. You will see two tiny bare metal patches on the back of the fuse; this is where you place the tester probe.

2. If it is getting power, test the wires going into the recepticle itself. Often the cigarette lighter receptacle can be removed, or you can get behind it to do the test.

I have found that these recepticles can loosen up or become dirty inside, creating a poor connection, (especially if the cigarette lighter is actually used for lighting cigarettes. )
