Unhappy coolant leak behind waterpump

My Bird is leaking coolant from behind the waterpump, where what looks like a spacer between block & waterpump.
My ? is, is there a manual that describes step by step procedures to resolve the leak?
I have a HAYNES repair manual, but it does not have anything close to what I need to do.
Is there any other repair manual out there that does, and does anyone know what the (spacer between block & waterpump) is called?

Re: coolant leak behind waterpump

See my post in the Tech Help thread at top of main page for info about factory manuals or go to Motor.com for the Motor's repair manuals. I prefer the factory manuals but the Motor manuals are the next best thing imo. Are you sure the leak isn't from the weep hole on the bottom of the water pump shaft housing?

If it's not the weep hole as 97Bird said, you may want to take off the pump, clean off the old gasket and sealant with a flat head screw driver, and apply a new gasket/sealant. Hell, if I you're going to do all that, you might just want to put on a new pump while you are at it - if you have the cash.

The weep hole was the first thing I checked, the engine is kept very clean so it's not hard to see where the leak is coming from. That's how I determined it was coming from mating point where the block and the timing chain housing or spacer, what ever it is, that's where the leak is.
The leak started about 4 moths after I replaced the the water pump, and the very first thing I checked was to make sure all the bolts were tight, and they were.

Re: coolant leak behind waterpump

Look in the manual for how to replace the timing chain and it will tell how to remove the cover.
