Question E-350 Econoline Steering Gear Adjustment

I have a 1994 E-350 Econoline HD Van with ~182,000 miles on it. The last 12 months the steering "wandering" problem has become worst. I replaced the tires, which helped somewhat. Before I replace the Tie Rod Ends, Lower Ball Joints and Wheel Bearings, I would like to try to adjust the Steering Gear, as there is some play in the Steering Wheel.

Can the Steering gear be adjusted? If so, does anyone know the correct procedure?

Thanks.

Re: E-350 Econoline Steering Gear Adjustment

The steering gear does have an adjusting screw and locknut, but they are for SET-UP of a NEW or REBUILT gear ONLY. It must NEVER be adjusted in the field.

Your best bet is to replace it. A lot of places offer a lifetime warranty. You might also check the drag link and inner tie rod for play. On older vans, you never know how warn the parts are. I have a 1993 and I've rebuilt almost the entire front suspension because one thing led to the next. Now everyting is tight like it should be.
