Handheld tuners

I was looking on ebay at the superchips tuners and found a used one for $150 for my pick-up. I know these probably aren't as good as the custom tunes, but for $150 it would be worth it if you changed tire size or had a SES light come on instead of taking it to the dealer. My question is how would I know if the tuner is V.I.N. locked, meaning that once it was used on the original vehicle it couldn't be used again. I'd hate to buy it and have it not work. Thanks.

unfortunately, he's right. You just have to roll the dice. If it isn't stated in the auction that it has been reset, email or look elsewhere....

For what it's worth... I bought my Hypertech off ebay, it works great, auction was stated truely....

Re: Handheld tuners

Being an eBayer, I suggest you email him and ask specifically if the tuner will be returned to original condition (no VIN). This will require hime to return his vehicle to original factory specs. I sugest you do not bid unless he guarentees this is done.
If he sez he duz but didn't, you can then take him to safe harbor action (also if you pay by Paypal, you can pay a couple extra bucks to have it guareteed by them).
One final note: Check his feedback. If it's good and he's established a good rep, you may be safe, but if there is little to no feedback or negative feedback, you may consider passing on it. Good Luck!!!
