2002 Concorde tranny problem

Hi, I have a 2002 Concorde with a little over 50k miles on it. I bought it with about 30k miles. The tranny won't go into reverse immediately when it is cold. It waits about 30 seconds or so and then shifts into gear. I don't know about the forward gears since I am in my garage when this happens and have no room to move forward. The dealership service guy can't find anything using the diagnostic tools he has at his disposal. I left it overnight with him and, of course, he could not get it to repeat the behavior I experience. Any suggestions? I am afraid it may get worse and completely go once my 70k warranty expires.

your tranny is probably in need of a fluid change. try that and go from there. The tech changing it should pay special attention and make sure that there is nothing in the pan when he changes it such as, metal, clutch material.

Thanks, Bizzy. I was wondering if anyone would ever reply to my question. I have had the fluid changed before, but the next time I am going for a major flush. I will make sure to remind them to look for gunk in the pan.

im not sure on chrysler trannie, but a flush may not be the best thing. i know that on many GM transmissions flushing it will damage the engine.

if i were you i would just go ahead and get another change. ask the tech to let you look at the pan whenever they are putting a new filter in there, that way you can see what is in the bottom of the pan.

This is a common problem for these cars and often relates to the incorrect transmission fluid being used in it.

Drain and flush the trans, as suggested above. Do NOT use Dexron III. Use ONLY Mopar ATF+4 (I think thats what its called). Go to your dealer to get it. Use the Mopar brand only.

Do not use any other brand, even if it says it's compatible with Chrysler transmissions.

Do this as soon as possible, to minimise damage..
