Unhappy brake light is on?

my brake light is on--my emer brake is off--and it doesn't stay on consistently. i haven't noticed a diff in my brakes...they still feel the same. what could cause this? a short? a fuse? doesn't seem like my brakes...what would be a plan of action?

Re: brake light is on?

It indicates a braking system hydraulic related problem in addition to letting you know the emergency brake is on.

First thing to check is the fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir. Low fluid level will cause the BRAKE light to come on. The level sensor is located on the right hand side of the master cylinder looking in from the front of the engine.
