Question More XJ Q's...

Hey,

'88 XJ Cherokee Laredo 4.0L, Auto, 4WD, Open 3-Row CSF Rad System.

Installed Electric Fan in place of Clutch Fan and installed Newer Style S-Blade OEM Aux Fan. Now have two Electric Fans. I don't know the rating of CFM on the Clutch Fan Replacement but I got it at the Junk Yard and it fits inside the Shroud and it blows like hell. Feels like it blows harder than the Aux Fan.

I've been reading alot of posts that the Fans must move alot of air in order to be successful at cooling the 4.0L.

1. The Fans activate at just a shade past 210 degrees and can bring the temps back down to 180 degrees in about 42 secs. This test was done idling. Moving or in traffic I'd anticipate even faster due to ram air.

Do you think my Fans are sufficient?

2. I installed Twin Air Vents in the center of the Hood. I covered one of them (the one above the distributor) partially on the inside so that rain
will just run off and not harm the distributor or coil but still letting in air. The other I left open so rain will just fall on the throttlebody, tps, etc. and burn off. I've been driving around even with heavy downpours w/o any ill effects.

Do you foresee any harm from the rain or other?

Upon installing mids/tweets on custom wood/vinyl baffle in the Hatch their weight caused the Hatch to not go all the way up anymore.
I changed the Gas Lifts with new ones but no effect.

3. Can you get stronger Gas Lifts for the Hatch?

Thx, Phil
ps Happy New Year Everyone!!!

Re: More XJ Q's...

I think your fans are more than sufficient. 42 sec. is IMO a fast cool-down rate.

For the hood vents, I cannot see any harm unless it gets cold enough for rainwater to collect under the hood (ie, when parked with the engine off) then freezes.

I agree on both accounts. You probably get more water spraying through the rad fins than you'll get through the vents. As long as it can drain out the bottom, no worries.
