1991 1500

Hey, I am the proud new owner of a 1991 GMC 1500 4x4 stepside regular cab. Air conditioning, power windows, buckets, custom paint. I bought it off of a guy for 525 bucks. Motor needs a rebuild, the selinoid for 4 wheel drive is broke so the hubs don't unlock, and... well..... it's purple. With color changing metal flake. Think it was a good deal. (I'll have pics by tomarow) Are there any good websites regarding these trucks?

Re: 1991 1500

I think you will find this website the most useful, along with any other forum sites. My Mom gave me my Dad's 1991 C1500 2WD 5.7L when he passed away in 2002. I have dumped close to $5000 trying to keep the truck running, and it would be a lot higher had I not done some of the work myself. They say you can't look a gift horse in the mouth, but when you dump as much hay into the horse as I have, you just gotta peek to see if it has extra teeth. It now has been diagnosed as needing a tranny overhaul and I refuse to put anymore major money into it.

Since getting the truck in January '03 the following has been replaced: exhaust (crossover back, excluding the cat), front rotors and calipers, brake lines (all), fuel tank, fuel pump and sending unit, alternator (3 times), starter, clutch, center support bearing, heater control head, underside steering components (pitman arm, ball joints, etc.), fuel injector connectors. I have repaired the wiper motor unit (just stopped working with wipers in mid position), cruise control, and steering column, which just happened to fall out of my hands driving home one day. In spite of replacing the heater control head, the heater system does not work. I am going to try replacing the relays and blower motor resistor (only another $35).

The truck has ~160K miles, with about 28K put on since I got it. If you ever need a '91 for spare parts, give me shout.
