Best for boost?
I'm looking at getting either a B18c1 B18c5 or a B18b, what will be best with a turbo? probably around 8 psi. i'm looking for strength of the motor as well as how long it will last. i don't want to go and rebuild my motor because of too much pressure, or build as little as possible. the car will not be track used with maybe a couple exceptions, this car will be a daily driver, at least until i win the lottery. haha. personal opinions anyone?

Re: Best for boost?
any of them will work on 8psi w/ the ITR and the GSR making the most on the same PSI due to the higher comp.....GSR is your best bet for the money...what are your goals and what's your budget??

Re: Best for boost?
i'm wanting to make a sleeper civic. not too specific for goals, just a sleeper that will last for a while and one that i don't have to rebuild the engine completely after a couple years. also i put on 18k miles on my 2000 tiburon in about 4 months so i drive alot...so i don't want the block to fail ya kno? i'm a poor college student so finances are tight...best for the buck

Re: Best for boost?
There is no guarentee that you're not going to have to rebuild after a few years. Forced induction puts a lot of wear on the engine's internals. And if you want reliability, you're going to have to spend some $ on a good engine managment system as well as get it professionally tuned.

Re: Best for boost?
yeah i know that it'll have to be rebuilt after a little while, but i don't want to have to rebuild it more often than i need to...i want the motor that will last longest under the added pressure

Re: Best for boost?
I think the LS is the most reliable engine to boost without building the bottom end. You can run more boost with the stock bottom than a GSR and certainly more than the higher compression R block. If you were running 8lb on an LS your running rougly 3 psi below the safe maximum boost on a stock bottom end, and the LS will have more torque than the VTEC motors

Re: Best for boost?
my current all stock block b16 setup.
295whp/185tq @ 10psi. on an sc34. psi mean nothing. the power you make and the tuning involved is what matters.

Re: Best for boost?
tuning is what counts!! Im building my GSR and i want to make ~300whp on it.....the GSR is also going to make more power on the same boost as the LS....and have more low end because of the higher compression
