car won't start.....think it's the alarm

96 jetta GL. ok lock must be broken. took off the lock and checked out the compressor and such. can't seem to get the alarm to stop going off so I disconnected the battery. tried looking for the alarm module. but it's way under there. Found it and it seems to be in front of the fuse box and has a 10 pin and 6 pin connected to the alarm module. although they say I should connect the red and red and black wires. 5 and 6. they are red and red and white. am I doing something wrong? what do I connect? any advice? Thanx
